Success down under for GB Taekwondo
GB Taekwondo made it a worthwhile trip to Australia with medal hauls from three different competitions, the World Taekwondo President's Cup, the Australian Open and the Oceania Para Championship.
Three British fighting stars claimed Gold in the first part of the Australian tour. Christian McNeish was victorious in the -68kg, defeating Yu-Jen Huang from China.
World Grand Slam Champion Lauren Williams made a welcome return to form beating South Korean Jan-Di Kim for -67kg Gold, while heavyweight Mahamo Cho was the third GB champion, winning over Manu Huaatua.
Lauren told GB Taekwondo:
“Based off the back of two poor performances I have been able to get a feel for what I am missing .“This was the perfect chance to put that into practice and learn from my mistakes."
Damon Sansum rounded out the President's cup medals by taking Bronze in his division.
The British team went on to build on this success with three more medals at the Australian Open. Heavyweight Mahama Cho once again reached the final but this time had to settle for Silver, as did Welsh teammate Lauren Williams.
Christian Mcneish added to his President's cup title with a -68kg bronze finish. Additional good news for the GB fighters is the healthy ranking points gained towards Tokyo 2020 qualification.
At the Oceania Para Championship, Matt Bush also came away with a bronze medal.
