British Judo claimed two medals at the IBSA (International Blind Sports Federation) Grand Prix in Antalya, Turkey. Thanks to Sam Ingram and Elliot Stewart who took a Silver and Bronze respectively.
Marking the second global world-ranking event of the Tokyo 2020 cycle, there was an impressive lineup on show, including current Paralympic and World champions.
Two-time Paralympic medallist Sam Ingram, competing at -100kg, managed to progress to the final. It was there that he took on Georgia’s Zviad Gogotchuri, the -90KG Gold medalist at the Rio Paralympics.
In a close match up, the Georgian managed to take victory by a single waza-ari.
Birmingham judoka Elliot Stewart faced Ukraine’s Aleksandr Nazarenko in the semi-finals. The Rio 2016 silver medallist took the bout with a golden score ippon. This dropped Stewart into the bronze medal match where he defeated the current European champion, Rovshan Safarov.
