GB Taekwondo stars Bianca Walkden and Christian McNeish each secured silver medals at the World Taekwondo Grand Prix in Chiba last week.
Triple World Champion Bianca faced China’s Shuyin Zheng for the first time since the 2019 World Taekwondo Championships. She narrowly lost in the +67kg Final by virtue of golden point.
Speaking on her medal, she told GB Taekwondo: “Obviously I’m never happy if I don’t win gold, but honestly it’s all a stepping stone towards the Olympics.
“It always is a good fight between us. “I’m not best friends [with Zheng] but I don’t dislike her, we just don’t see each other outside of events but it’s a rivalry that’s happened.
“Come Tokyo hopefully I’ll be 100% ready because that’s all that matters to me.”
Reigning European Champion Christian McNeish fought off heavy competition throughout the competition, most notably, former three-time World Champion, Lee Dae Hoon in the Semi-Final.
The former kickboxer took on Iran’s Mirhashem Hosseini in the -68kg Final and succumbed to the Asian Games Champion, ending the match with 20 points to 36.
Male World Champion Bradley Sinden missed out on a medal as did double European champion Lauren Williams.
