Roy Baker of Irish Open fame has become the new president of the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO). At an EGM in Milan, Roy was one of two candidates for the vacant presidency. After winning a considerable majority, he takes up the new post with immediate effect.
The former European president was delighted to take on the new post, he said -
"I am humbled to be in the privileged position to lead the sport I love in to the future.
"It is a huge responsibility one, and I take very seriously."
He continued -
"I will rely on the WAKO family and the WAKO team to be successful. As no one person can make a sport great it must be team work.
"For those that have supported me thank you , for those that have stood by me in difficult times you will never be forgotten. To my family thank you for allowing me to take this step.
"We now must step further in to the light for the future of our children and sport. I stand for transparency, I stand for accountability and I stand for responsibility, now we are united as a team step forward in to the future.
"A bright and wonderful future with my WAKO family"
