Two athletes have been welcomed into the GB Taekwondo full time World Class Performance Programme, with hopes of representng Great Britain around the globe.
Kyla Julien and Josh Calland have begun training immediately at the National Taekwondo Centre in Manchester.
Julien, from Huddersfield will be competing in the same category as two-time Olympic Champion, Jade Jones (Under 57KG)
The youngster was previously a member of the Sport England funded Development Programme and has previous medal success at the Presidents Cup in 2016, along with the Dutch, Luxembourg and Paris Open’s.
She told GB Taekwondo: “It came as a bit of a shock and I wasn’t expecting it at all, to be honest.
“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity, nonetheless and can’t wait to get going! I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
It is a return to the programme for Josh Calland who will be fighting in the under 68KG section, alongside European Champion, Christian McNeish and World & European bronze medallist, Bradly Sinden.
The returning athlete said: “I’m extremely happy to be back in full-time training on the programme, after my time out.”
“I’ve worked really hard and proved that I deserve to be amongst the best of the best Taekwondo fighters in the world.”
